Twenty-three people were injured and over 13,000 evacuated after a 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck the county of Ninglang in southwest China's Yunnan Province on Sunday, reported Xinhua, quoting local authorities.

As of Monday noon, all 23 injured were out of danger after receiving treatment in hospital, the county information office said.

There were no reports of building collapses, but 8,117 housing rooms in the county sustained varying levels of damage. The quake also damaged over 8,200 square meters of teaching buildings and dormitories in schools in four townships.

The telecommunications service, power and water supply, and road transport in the quake-hit areas are normal, and relief efforts are under way, the office said.

Over 1,100 rescuers including firefighters and provincial-level emergency rescue teams joined relief efforts.
