The High National Elections Commission of Libya on Wednesday announced that 25 out of 98 candidates for the presidential election have been disqualified, reported Xinhua.

The disqualification was decided based on recommendations of the Attorney General, Criminal Investigation Department, and the Citizenship and Passport Department, the commission said.

One of the most notable disqualified candidates is Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi who was toppled in 2011.

The commission also published a primary list of 73 presidential candidates.

According to the commission's electoral plan, a final list of presidential candidates will be published earlier in December.

It started accepting applications for the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections on Nov. 8.
