Iran reports record 39,619 daily COVID-19 cases, 542 deaths

Iran reported on Sunday 39,619 new COVID-19 cases and 542 deaths, both the highest daily figure since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country, reported Xinhua.

The country's caseload amounted to 4,158,729 with 94,015 deaths, according to a briefing published by Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education on its official website.

A total of 3,539,035 people have recovered from the disease or been discharged from hospitals across the country, while 6,462 remain in intensive care units, the ministry said.

By Sunday, 12,589,587 people have received at least a dose of coronavirus vaccines in the country, while 3,072,371 have taken two doses.

On Saturday night, a new plan about Iran's approach to tackling the pandemic was presented in an interview through state TV.

The plan of the new administration includes speeding up vaccination, reviewing the measures and mapping criteria used by the national headquarters fighting the coronavirus, modifying the headquarters' chain of command and decision-making process, and distributing "economic, cultural, and social" aid packages among the people.
