Three family members of a slain journalist have been killed in a shooting by unknown men in Afghanistan's western Ghor province, an independent war monitoring group reported Saturday, said Xinhua.

On Jan. 1, Bismillah Adil Aimaq, head of a local radio station, lost his life in an attack along a road in the city of Firoz Koah, capital of Ghor. Militants broke into his parents' house in Firoz Koah on Thursday night, Reduction in Violence (RiV) group reported on its website.

According to the group, one brother of Aimaq and his 12-year-old daughter and one of Aimaq's uncle were killed and several other people were wounded in Thursday's attack.

Local officials accused Taliban militants for the attack, but the militant group denied the involvement in the incident.

Aimaq was the first Afghan reporter to die in a terrorist attack in 2021. Seven Afghan journalists and media workers were killed in the Asian country in 2020 amid deteriorating security situation, Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC), an independent media safety group, reported earlier this month.
