Condom shortage looms as production falls due to coronavirus

Shortage of condoms has been created across the world following poor production due to the coronavirus outbreak.according to a news report published by British newspaper The Guardian quoting news agency Reuters.

The report said that Malaysian company Karex Bhd produces about 20 percent of total condoms across the world. The company has stooped production condoms in its three Malaysian factories for more than a week due to the lockdown imposed by the government to contain the spread of the virus.

It already created a shortfall of 100 million condoms of different brands including Durex, supplied to healthcare systems of various governments or distributed by aid programmes such as the UN Population Fund, said the report.

Although the company was given permission to resume production on Friday, it is facing workers crisis.
