Very strong wind gusts will occur in the southwestern parts of the country during the next few hours, causing widespread wind damage in many areas, said the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) in a public notification issued early Friday night.

The notification issued at 00:30 a.m. suggested that loose objects should be secured before the wind strengthens.

The FMI advised people to stay indoors during the strong winds.

When outdoors, people were suggested to beware of falling trees and fallen power lines.

FMI, however, said that emergency number 112 should not be called for inquiries about power outages or fallen trees.

It should only be called in urgent emergency situations where life, health, property, or the environment is at risk.
