Polar night ends in Finland as Utsjoki sees sunrise

The polar night ((endless night) ended at Nuorgam, the northernmost village in Utsjoki, Finland on Wednesday after about two months.

The sunrise took place at 11:55 am and set at 12:49 pm.

The duration of the first day was 54 minutes.

According to Finnish weather forecasting company Foreca, the polar night began on November 25, 2023 when sun set at 12:05pm.

The polar night, well-known as kaamos in Finnish, is the period around the winter equinox when the sun does not rise during the daytime above the horizon at any point.
