A strong summer storm called Riikka blew over different parts of the country on Sunday evening leaving thousands of households without power supply.

The storm mainly hit the Kainuu, eastern, north-east and central part of the country, also caused flash floods and disrupted railway services, reported national broadcaster Yle.

Power supply at several thousands of households were disrupted after trees fell on the electricity lines due to the storm.

About 6000 households remained out of power at 6:00 pm, said the Yle report, adding that the most affected regions for power cuts were North Savo and North Karelia.

The heavy rainfall also created flood as vast areas in Kuopio and Savonlinna went under water.
