The country witnessed the first snowfall of the season on Wednesday morning at the northwestern village Karesuvanto in Enontekiö, reported the national broadcaster Yle.

The weather was foggy, cloudy and cold and a few centimetres of snowfall were recorded, the report said quoting locals.

Although the first snow fell during the week of September normally, it will be melted several times before the arrival of real winter season.

Last year the first snowfall was recorded on September 25 in Kilpisjärvi area.

According to the meteorologists, the local snow and sleet flurries are predicted for northern Finnish Lapland over the next few days, but that accumulations are expected to be negligible, said the Yle report.
