FC Barcelona scored two goals in the last three minutes to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat against a brave Rayo Vallecano side on Saturday night.

Barca, who were again without Leo Messi, had been three minutes from crashing to a 2-1 defeat against the side from the south of Madrid less than a week after beating Real Madrid 5-1, before Ousmane Dembele scored an 88th minute equalizer.

Luis Suarez then flung himself full length to score the winning goal (and his 5th in two games) in the last minute of the match to break the hearts of the Rayo players and fans.

Things had begun smoothly for Barca in the small Vallecas stadium when Suarez opened the scoring after just 11 minutes as the Catalans dominated the opening minutes of the game.

Rayo equalized through Jose Pozo's excellent left foot shot before halftime and substitute Alvaro Garcia put them ahead 12 minutes into the second half.

Barca laid siege to the Rayo goal, but the home side looked as if they would hold on for a win until Dembele and Suarez turned the game on its head.

Real Madrid won their first home game under temporary coach Santiago Solari but rode their luck in a 2-0 home win over Valladolid.

The visitors hit the woodwork twice before Real Madrid opened the scoring in the 83rd minute thanks to an own goal after Vinicius Jr's misdirected shot took a huge deflection off Valladolid defender Kiko Olivas to leave Jordi Masip helpless.

Sergio Ramos then converted an 88th minute penalty to seal the win.

Atletico Madrid dropped two points with a 1-1 draw away to Leganes in a game where Diego Simeone's side again showed a worrying lack of creative intent.

Antoine Griezmann scored a spectacular free kick in the 69th minute, but Atletico paid for their defensive tactics when Guidio Carillo equalized from a corner with 8 minutes left on the clock.

Finally Valencia are still without a home win after losing 1-0 at home to Girona. Pepe Pons scored the only goal of the game, while Girona keeper Bono made several stunning saves to leave Valencia just two points above the relegation zone.
