Spain's triumph in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on Sunday was overshadowed by tragedy after a 13-year-old boy died during celebrations following the 1-0 victory over Argentina, reported Xinhua.

The incident occurred early Monday in the town of Ciudad Rodrigo, northwest of Madrid, where fans were celebrating in a fountain at the center of a roundabout.

The upper section of the fountain collapsed, striking the boy. Although emergency services responded quickly, they were unable to save his life.

Three other people were injured and taken to a hospital for treatment. The Ciudad Rodrigo local authority declared three days of official mourning in a statement confirming the tragedy.
