Ex Austria goalkeeper Manninger dies after car hit by train

Former Austria goalkeeper Alexander Manninger died on Thursday in a traffic accident at the age of 48, according to media reports and statements from several of his former clubs, reported Xinhua.
The Austrian Press Agency reported that Manninger was driving across a railway crossing in the Salzburg region on Thursday morning when his car was hit by a train. Emergency services rushed to the scene and attempted to revive him, but he later died of his injuries. Police said no one else was hurt in the accident and that the cause remained under investigation.
Manninger's former clubs, including Red Bull Salzburg, Arsenal and Juventus, paid tribute.
During his playing career, Manninger was part of Arsenal's Premier League and FA Cup double in the 1997-98 season, and he was named the Premier League Player of the Month in March 1998. He also won the Serie A title with Juventus.
Manninger retired in 2017 at the end of his contract with Liverpool.
