Tennis player Heliövaara chosen Finland´s athlete of the year

Tennis player Harri Heliövaara has been elected Finland´s Athlete of the Year for 2025 by the Finnish Sports Journalists Association (Urheilutoimittajain Liito) on Thursday, said the association in a press release.
Basketball player Lauri Markkanen and Ice Hockey player Aleksander Barkov, who were elected athletes of the year previously secured second and third position respectively this year followed by golf player Sami Välimäki and athlete Saga Vanninen.
“It is a great honour to receive such recognition, an incredible feeling at the start of the season,” Heliövaara said over video call from Australia during the gala event.
Heliövaara won the doubles title at the Australian Open and three other tournaments together with his British playing partner Henry Patten in 2025.
