Goals from Aaron Ramsey and Connor Roberts against Turkey increased Wales' chances for a berth in the last 16 following their second match in Group A on Wednesday, reported Xinhua.

Both teams were without a win hence both sides piled on the pressure from the starting whistle.

Wales looked more dangerous and had a promising chance with only six minutes gone when Ramsey wasn't able to beat Turkey goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir from tight angle.

The "Dragons" kept Turkey's defence busy as Ramsey missed his second chance after pulling over the target from the edge of the box in the 24th minute.

Just before the break Wales got rewarded for their efforts and opened the scoring with an excellent goal as Bale's deep delivery into the box allowed Ramsey to chest down the ball before slotting it past hapless Cakir in the 42nd minute.

After the break, Turkey picked up the pace as Hakan Calhanoglu unleashed a long-range effort with four minutes into the second half before Yilmaz volleyed a corner over the target from very close range.

Wales had the golden chance to make it two on the scoreboards as Mehmet Zeki Celik brought down Bale inside the box. Bale stepped up but fired the penalty wide over the target at the hour mark.

Turkey pressed forward but their best chance through Merih Damiral in the closing stages wasn't a challenge for Wales custodian Danny Ward.

Wales put the result beyond doubt in the added time as Bale had all time and space following a short corner kick and squared into the path of Roberts, who made no mistake to double the lead.

"Wales has played a good match. They were effective with their pivot striker and two wingers. Now they have a good chance in group after that result," Turkey head coach Senol Gunes said.

"I'm absolutely delighted with the win, we fought hard, worked our socks off, yes I missed a penalty, but I feel I showed good character to keep going. That second goal at the end was the icing on the cake," Wales team captain Gareth Bale said.

For now, Wales (4 points) sit atop the table in Group A followed by Italy (3 points), Switzerland (1 point) and Turkey (0 points).
