Egypt international and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of an African Cup of Nations game against Togo, the Egyptian Football Association said Friday, reported EFE-EPA.

The EFA said Salah had no symptoms but tested positive in a routine check ahead of the game in Cairo on Saturday.

“The medical swab done on our first team showed that our player and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah was infected with coronavirus, after his test came out positive,” the footballing body said on Twitter.

All other players tested negative, it added.

However, the EFA said that Egypt’s health ministry had detected three positive tests in both the Egypt and Togo national teams, without going into detail.

The EFA is set to carry out fresh testing before tomorrow's game.

Salah will go into isolation in Egypt and is set to miss out on the national side’s AFCON qualifiers.

Local media circulated images showing Salah at a wedding celebration for one of his brothers. Some footage showed the football star with his mask below his mouth as he mingled with a crowd not heeding social distancing recommendations.

The new will not be welcome by Liverpool, which has been beset by a series of high profile injuries that have whittled their squad down.

The defending Premier League champions look set to pay Leicester next week without their star striker.
