Poland coach Jerzy Brzeczek hailed his side after their narrow 1-0 defeat against the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League on Friday, reported Xinhua.
Steven Bergwijn scored the game's only goal in the 61st minute, firing in from close range. After breaking the deadlock, Dwight Lodeweges's team controlled the game at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam, restricting Poland to just one shot on target.
After the defeat, Brzeczek surprised the waiting journalists by praising his team.
"I'm satisfied with the performance of my players. I'm happy with our movement on the pitch as we played against a strong side. We knew that the Netherlands would keep the ball and that they would try a positional attack. However, they didn't create many chances. We made one mistake and we were punished for that. That's normal in international football," said Brzeczek.
"We played well with counterattacks. We had several chances to score. Krzysztof Piatek had the best chance but Jasper Cillessen saved it," added the 49-year-old.
Poland now travel to play Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday, while the Netherlands face Italy.
