Sergio Ramos is a major injury doubt for Real Madrid after being forced out of his side's 2-1 win away to Real Sociedad on Sunday night with a knee injury, reported Xinhua.

The central defender had opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 49th minute before being caught on his left knee in a collision with Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak shortly afterwards.

Although he tried to continue, the Madrid captain was forced to limp off in the 59th minute and was replaced by Eder Militao.

He was later pictured with a large ice-pack on his knee in the Madrid dugout. When asked about the defender in his post-match press conference, coach Zinedine Zidane said he was "in a lot of pain," although Zidane said he also hoped Ramos has just suffered a knock and there would be no lasting damage.

Despite the optimism of his coach, it seems likely Ramos will miss Wednesday's home game against Mallorca and he could also be a doubt for Sunday's visit to bottom of the table Espanyol, while if it is more serious, he would also be out for arguably tougher matches at home to Getafe and away to Athletic Club Bilbao.

Sunday saw Ramos become the top-scoring defender in La Liga history with his 68th goal taking him past former Barca defender Ronaldo Koeman's total of 67.
