Another leader of the opposition Vihreäliitö (Green League), Touko Aalto, on Saturday announced that he would contest for party’s chairmanship, local media reported.

With the party lawmaker Aalto, a total of five party leaders have so far expressed their interest to contest for the party leadership.

Earlier, party lawmakers Maria Ohisalo, Olli-Poika Parviainen, Krista Mikkonen, and Emma Kari announced their candidature for the party chair expected to be elected at a party council scheduled for June 17.

The incumbent party chairman, Ville Niinistö said he would step down from the post in June.

Aalto, also a deputy leader of the party decided to contest for the post of party chair, reported the national broadcaster Yle quoting a Finnish language newspaper Keskisuomalainen.

Aalto bagged 2,371 votes in the municipality polls held on April 9 and Vihreäliitö became the largest party in the central Finland.

Aalto was elected councillor of the Jyväskylä City Council in 2008 and a lawmaker in 2015, where he is currently serving as a member of the parliamentary finance committee and the social and healthcare reform working group.
