Rauma shipyard worker killed in forklift accident

An employee was killed in an accident at the shipyard of Rauma Marine Construction in Rauma, a municipality under Satakunta region, police said on Friday.

The employee was seriously injured in a forklift accident while working at the shipyard on Wednesday afternoon and taken to the hospital in a critical condition where he succumbed to his wounds on Friday.

The accident took place at about 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday when a forklift knocked down the worker who was walking in the shipyard at that time.

The Southwestern Finland Police are investigating into the case as a suspected aggravated manslaughter against the forklift driver.

Police said that both the victim and the suspect are men but did not divulge their details identities at the preliminary stage of the investigation.

“The suspect is an employee who was driving the forklift. Both the accident victim and the suspect are men,” said Lead Investigator and Inspector of the Southwest Finland Police Criminal Department Kimmo Hiltula in the press release.
