Birth rate remains lower than death in Finland in Jan-June period

The number of births was 6,653 lower than that of deaths in Finland in the first six months of 2026, according to Statistics Finland.

There were 23,662 births and 30,315 deaths in January-June 2026.

During this period Finland's population, however, increased by 16 persons.

The reason for the population increase was migration gain from abroad.

The number of immigrants was 5,226 higher than that of emigrants.

There were 19,720 immigrants and 14,494 emigrants.

Finland's population was 5,652,897 at the end of June 2026.
