Elderly man burnt to death in Pieksämäki house fire

An elderly man was burnt to death in a fire at a house in Pieksämäki, a municipality under South Savo region on Sunday, police said.

The fire broke out in the 2-story detached house and engulfed it immediately.

Responding to an alarm, rescue service people rushed to the spot and tried to bring the fire under control.

They recovered the body of an elderly man, the resident of the house from the debris.

Police, however, did not divulge the detail identity of the deceased.

The origin of the fire could not be known immediately.

Rescue service people and police are investigating into the incident to find out the reason behind the fire.

Police did not suspect any crime link to the incident at the preliminary stage of the investigation.
