Three teenagers-two girls and one boy- allegedly set fire at several houses in Turku deliberately in between October 2025 and February 2026, said police in a press release on Tuesday.

Two 14-year-old girls were suspected of starting six fires while one 14-year boy was also suspected of two fires.

The six fires were started a building on the Ilpoistentie road, a disused daycare centre on Susiniitynkatu, a parish house demolition site in Rusthollinrinne, an abandoned house on Päähatekatu, and outdoor toilet and garbage shed in Uittamo, and an abandoned residential and commercial property in Ruukinrinne in Turku.

The teenagers admitted their involvement in the crimes and Police suspected them of aggravated arson and vandalism.

As all of the suspects are under the age of 15, they would not be liable criminally, but they could be liable for the damages they cause and they would be obliged to repair the properties, said head investigator Juhani Malmberg.

"The total amount of damages is still being assessed. At the worst case, the youths will be liable for damages they caused for the rest of their lives," Malmberg added.

Police said they were able to find out the suspected arsonists after the parents of the suspects had contacted them.
