The Department for Rescue Services of the Ministry of the Interior is coordinating civilian material donations from all sectors of society to Ukraine, said the ministry in a press release on Tuesday.

The coordination enables Finnish companies, government agencies, organisations, municipalities or wellbeing services counties to give their support to Ukraine.

Public authorities alone cannot respond to the extensive need for aid; instead, assistance must be provided through broader cooperation, said the ministry.

The ministry coordinates the provision of civilian material assistance to Ukraine through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.

In recent months, Russia has increased its attacks on Ukraine’s energy systems. The attacks have damaged power transmission and supply systems, for example. Many regions suffer from recurring power outages and have had to restrict energy consumption.

“The Ukrainian energy sector therefore needs donations, technical expertise and reserve capacity solutions to overcome the winter. The need for aid in Ukraine cuts through all of society,” the press release added.
