Elderly man burnt to death in Turku house fire

An elderly man was burnt to death in a fire occurred at a detached house at Räntämäki area in Turku on Wednesday evening, said police in a press release.

The fire broke out in the house at Mennanderinkuja area and engulfed it immediately.

Responding to an alarm, rescue service personnel and police rushed to the spot and were trying to bring the fire under control till late Wednesday night at about 8:30 p.m.

They recovered body of a man born in 1940s from the debris.

Police, however, did not divulge the detail identity of the deceased.

The origin of the fire could not be known.

Rescue service people and police are investigating into the incident to find out the reasons behind the fire and the death.
