Iranian Embassy in Helsinki vandalised, 2 held

A group of agitated people carried out vandalism at the Embassy of Iran in Helsinki on Monday afternoon, police said in a press release on Tuesday.

The incident took place at about 5:00 p.m. when the agitators gathered in front of the embassy at city´s Kulosaari area and at least two of them entered into the embassy premises and broke the flagpole, ripped the Iranian flag and defaced an exterior wall with paint.

Responding to a call police rushed to the spot, but the agitators left the scene before arrival of police.

Police conducted extensive search at the locality and nearby areas and spotted a car, which left the embassy with two people onboard, at Itäkeskus area immediately after the incident.

Members of the law enforcing agency seized the car and the arrested the two suspects.

The police are investigating into the case as aggravated vandalism and breach of public peace.

They are interrogating the suspects to get more information and decide whether the suspects will be arrested formally.

Police are also trying to find out the identities of other people, who entered into the embassy ground.
