91 people drown in Finland in 2025

A total of 91 people drowned in Finland in 2025 and the number is three higher than the previous year and four higher than 2023, according to the Finnish Swimming Teaching and Life Saving Association (Suomen Uimaopetus- ja Hengenpelastusliitto-SUH).

The highest number of drownings took place in July when the association recorded 28 incidents while no incident of drowning reported in December last year.

Five people drowned in January, six in February, nine in March, 10 in April, two in May, eight in June, nine in August, four in September, four in October and six in November.

The number of drawings in 2025, however, was significantly lower than 2021 and slightly lower than 2022.

A total of 157 people drowned in Finland in 2021 and 94 in 2022.
