Man facing deportation flees from detention centre in Helsinki

A man, who was waiting for deportation, managed to escape from a detention unit of Finnish Immigration Service (Migri) on Saturday, police said in a press release on Monday.

Police said that the incident took place at about 3:10 p.m. during an outdoor exercise of the detainees at Metsälä detention unit in Helsinki.

Two of the detainees tried to escape over the fence using rope ladders. One of them managed to escape while the rest one was caught by the security guards.

Detective Inspector Anssi Enqvist said that both the men were suspected of violently resisting staff during the incident.

The location of the escaped man could not be known yet, said Enqvist in the press release.

Police are investigating into the incident and conducting search to find out the escaped man.
