The Government in its evening session on Wednesday discussed topical issues related to Åland together with representatives of the Government of Åland, said an official press release.
The evening session focused on smooth, constructive and effective cooperation between the central government and the autonomous authorities in Åland.
Before the evening session, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Minister of Local Government and Regional Affairs Anna-Kaisa Ikonen met with Premier of Åland Katrin Sjögren.
Sjögren is the head of the Government of Åland. Other ministers also met with their counterparts from Åland before the start of the session.
“Today’s bilateral discussions and the evening session give us opportunities to strengthen our common foundation and mutual trust. It is in everyone’s interest that cooperation between the central government and the self-governing authorities in Åland flows smoothly and that we are able to advance our common interests. Our Co-Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers, which will soon be coming to a close, is a prime example of our well-functioning cooperation. Together we have promoted a number of issues important to our region, such as the resilience and preparedness of Nordic societies,” said Orpo in the press release.
Topics of discussion at the session included growth and competitiveness, as well as issues related to preparedness.
The Government and the representatives of the Government of Åland also received a briefing on the reform of the Act on the Autonomy of Åland.
In line with the Government Strategy on Åland, the Government holds evening sessions on Åland on a regular basis, if possible once a year.
