Number of thefts at shops rises by 21.9% in Finland in Q1

A total of 120,400 offences against the Criminal Code were recorded by the police, customs and border guard in January to March 2025, which is 2.1 per cent more than one year earlier, according to Statistics Finland.

The number of thefts from shops was 16,300, which is 21.9 per cent higher compared to the stipulated period in the last year.

A total of 21 offences against life were reported in January to March 2025, which is three per cent fewer than in 2024.

Altogether 296 cases of sexual harassment referred to in the new legislation were reported, which is 59 fewer than in January to March 2024. Of the acts, 102 were committed on the Internet.

Altogether 396 reports were made about dissemination or possession of a sexually offensive image of a child or following a sexually offensive performance of a child, which is 128 more than in the previous year. Over 90 per cent of the acts were committed on the Internet.
