Number of robberies goes up by 17.9% in 2023

About a total of 2,700 incidents of robbery were reported to the police in 2023 and the number is 17.9% higher compared to the number of the previous year, according to Statistics Finland.

A total of 508,000 offences against the Criminal Code were recorded by the police, customs and border guard in 2023, which is 6.7 per cent more than one year earlier.

A total of 1,400 rapes as defined in the new legislation on sexual offences were recorded.

The recorded number of offences against life was 62, which is 17 fewer than in 2022.

The legislation on sexual offences was amended on 1 January 2023.

Altogether 1,139 cases of sexual harassment referred to in the new legislation were reported. In all, 343 of the acts were committed on the Internet.

A total of 146 reports of non-consensual dissemination of sexual images were reported. Of the acts 120 were committed on the Internet.
