President of the United States Joe Biden arrived in Finland late Wednesday night to hold a meeting with President Sauli Niinistö and attend the US-Nordic Leaders’ Summit scheduled to be held in Helsinki on Thursday hosted by the Finnish President.

Biden arrived at Helsinki Airport at about 10:25 pm from Vilnius at the end of the summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).

The US-Nordic Summit will be attended by Biden as well as Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson, Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre, Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen and Prime Minister of Iceland Katrín Jakobsdóttir.

The discussions taking place at the Presidential Palace will focus on closer cooperation between the Nordic countries and the United States on security, environment and technology issues.

Meanwhile, the authorities have taken tight security measures in Helsinki and adjoining areas during the visit of the US President and the Nordic Prime Ministers.

Helsinki police earlier announced that vehicular movement will remain closed at different city roads due to the visit of the US President.

Earlier on July 6, the government decided that Border Guard would enhance border security at Finland's external and internal borders from July 8 to 15 July.

In July, 2018, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Helsinki and held their first meeting.

Biden also visited Finland in 2011 when he was the Vice President of USA.
