The City of Helsinki area will get more than 200 new electric car charging points for public use in 2023, of which 57 to be in connection with sports parks, said the City of Helsinki in a press release on Tuesday.

Energy company Helen Oy will operate the charging stations.

The new charging station construction project will enable the implementation of charging points in a wider area in Helsinki.

“The charging options range from basic to high-power charging, allowing electric motorists to choose the charging point according to their need and diversifying the availability of charging points for taxi services and the like,” said Jesse Suosalmi, Product Group Manager for public charging network of Helen.

Low-emission traffic is an important goal for Helsinki, where traffic is responsible for about one-fifth of the carbon dioxide emissions. Increasing public charging opportunities contributes to the achievement of this goal.

Electrification of traffic is essential in achieving the 2030 carbon neutrality target set in the Helsinki City Strategy 2021–2025.
