Prime Minister Sanna Marin on Tuesday said that Finland wanted to become a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as her country never wants war again.

"We want to become a member of NATO because we never want war in Finland again,” said the Premier an interview with Cable News Network (CNN) in front of audiences at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Pointing out the war with Russia in the past, Marin said that although Finland has very good military capabilities, NATO membership will make sure that other members of the alliance will defend, if a member country is attacked.

She also reiterated that Finland will continue its support to Ukraine against Russian aggression for as long as it takes.

"We don't know when the war will end, but we have to make sure that the Ukrainians will win. I don't think there's any other choice. If Russia would win the war, then we would only see decades of this kind of behaviour ahead of us," the Prime Minister added.
