Finland has been elected a member of the executive board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) after 20 years.

The membership of Finland along with 57 UN members was officially finalised in Paris on Thursday, the local media reported.

“Finland is new member in @UNESCO executive board! Thank you for your votes and support, and to our team,” Minister for Education and Culture Sanni Grahn-Laasonen wrote in a twitter post.

Finland won the membership in an election in secret ballot and secured the highest number of votes, according to an official press release.
