President Sauli Niinistö, his US counterpart Joseph R. Biden and Prime Minister of Sweden Magdalena Andersson on Tuesday held a trilateral telephone conversation and discussed about the ongoing ratifications of Finland and Sweden´s NATO membership.

Immediately after the call Biden confirmed with his signature the US ratification of Finland’s and Sweden’s NATO membership, said the Finnish President office in a press release late Tuesday night.

Niinistö, Biden and Andersson discussed the still needed ratifications and Finland’s and Sweden’s future role as NATO members.

Niinistö thanked Biden for the valuable US support during the past year.

“We have come a long way since we first discussed these matters”, Niinistö told Biden.

In addition to security policy, Niinistö also raised the importance of technology cooperation in the relations between Finland, Sweden and the United States.

The conversation also addressed the need to continue supporting Ukraine.

Biden congratulated the Finnish President and Swedish Prime Minister on the U.S. Senate’s swift, bipartisan ratification of their NATO accession protocols, and welcomed Finland and Sweden moving one step closer to becoming NATO Allies, said White House in a statement after the phone call.

The United States looks forward to depositing its instrument of ratification at the earliest possible moment.

Biden affirmed that the United States will work with Finland and Sweden to remain vigilant against any threats to our shared security, and to deter and confront aggression or threat of aggression.

The phone call was initiated by the United States.

Earlier on August 3, the US Senators approved the NATO accession protocols of Finland and Sweden.
