Police Day will again be marked in all police department areas on 27 August after a two-year break, said the National Police Board in a press release.

Due to the corona pandemic, Police Day last year was cancelled and the year before it was held virtually.

“We have been through some very exceptional times over the past couple of years and people now seem to have an increased need to discuss security-related topics and their concerns and wishes with the authorities,” said National Police Commissioner Seppo Kolehmainen.

“We will now try to respond to this need by again mixing with the public in market squares and shopping centres across the country on the last Saturday in August.”

People can meet National Police Commissioner Kolehmainen at an event held by Eastern Finland Police Department in Kuopio market square, where popular children’s traffic park constables Maltti and Valtti and Helsinki Police Symphonic Band will also appear.

Police Day events will be held in all police department areas. These events are open to everyone and are suitable for all ages.

The goal is to promote a local, face-to-face view of the police and interaction with residents in the area, and in this way strengthen the sense of security and trust in the activities of the authorities.

Police Day has been held in its present form since 2009, with thousands of people attending the events each year.
