3 killed in road mishap in Savonlinna, 1 drowns in Lohja

Three youths were killed and another was injured in a road accident at Savonlinna, a municipality in southeast Finland early Saturday morning.

Police said that the accident took place at about 6:00 am when a speeding private car with four people onboard skidded off on Rantasalmentie road and collided with a roadside signal pole.

Three of them were killed on the spot in the accident while the rest one was injured critically.

All of the victims were about 20 years old.

Police and rescue service people rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.

The injured person was admitted to Kuopio University Hospital.

Police said that the speed limit at the place of accident is 60 kilometres per hour.

Police did not divulge the identities of the deceased and the wounded person.

The Accident Investigation Board and Police are investigating into the incident to find out the reason behind the accident.

Meanwhile, an elderly person was drowned in Väänteenjoki river at Lohja, a municipality under Uusimaa region on Saturday afternoon.

Police said that a passerby found the person dead on the river bank at Paksalo area and informed the emergency service.

Police and rescue service people rushed to the spot and recovered the body of a 70 years old man.

The identity of the deceased could not be known.

Police are investigating into the matter to find out the reason behind the death.
