President Sauli Niinistö on Friday had a phone call with his Croatian counterpart Zoran Milanović and discussed various issues including Finland´s NATO membership application, said the President Office in a press release.

They also discussed the security situation in Europe.

Milanović expressed his concern over the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the conversation.

Earlier on May 16, Finland and Sweden formally submitted their applications for membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).

But a member of the military alliance Turkey repeatedly announced to oppose Finland´s NATO membership from the very beginning of the move.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on 29 May reiterated that Turkey will not allow Finland and Sweden to enter NATO.
