Haavisto, Albares discuss Ukraine crisis, EU security

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto on Wednesday held a meeting with his Spanish counterpart José Manuel Albares in Helsinki and discussed the situation following Russia´s attack on Ukraine and European security.

They observed that the war in Ukraine has led to rapid changes in the European security environment and put wide global effects including food security.

“Honored to welcome FM José Manuel Albares to Helsinki. Good exchange on the situation in Ukraine and the European security. Russian attack has wide global effects, incl. on food security. Bilateral relations, migration, green transition and Sahel also on the agenda,” wrote Haavisto in twitter of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs after the meeting.

Earlier, before the meeting Haavisto said that EU countries have been very united in their positions, and bilateral meetings have become increasingly important.

“Spain is a major EU and NATO country, and contacts with it have been close in recent months. I am very pleased to have this opportunity to discuss with my Spanish counterpart in Helsinki,” said Haavisto before the meeting in a statement.
