Niinistö, Marin congratulate Macron on re-election

President Sauli Niinistö and Prime Minister Sanna Marin congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron for his victory in the Presidential elections on Sunday.

Niinistö in a twitter post late Sunday night also expressed hope that the bilateral cooperation between Finland and France will continue to deepen in future.

“Congratulations, Mr President Emmanuel Macron on your re-election. Relations between Finland and France are excellent. I am convinced that our bilateral, European and international cooperation will continue to deepen in the years to come,” Niinistö wrote in his twitter post in Finnish.

Prime Minister Sanna Marin also congratulated Macron on his re-election in the Presidential poll.

“Warm congratulations to Emmanuel Macron,” the Premier wrote in her twitter in Finnish late Sunday night, terming the victory as a continuation of the journey to collaborative Europe and security relation between Finland and France.

Macron won the 2022 French presidential runoff with 58 percent of the votes, according to the preliminary exit poll released Sunday evening.

Macron's rival, far-right wing candidate Marine Le Pen, gained 42 percent of the votes.
