President Sauli Niinistö and Prime Minister Sanna Marin on Sunday expressed shock at the atrocities committed by the Russian military in the town of Bucha near Kyiv and other parts in Ukraine.

Niinistö and Marin in their social media posts separately also demanded international probe into the war crimes committed by Russia.

They made their remarks following the discovery of hundreds of bodies in Bucha on Saturday, the same day Ukraine declared the town liberated from Russian troops.

“Reports of atrocities and the killing of civilians in Ukraine by the Russian army are deeply shocking. Civilians who have been the victims of crime in Butch, Irpin and elsewhere in Ukraine deserve justice. Finland supports the role of the International Criminal Court in investigation,” Niinistö wrote in his Facebook post in Finnish.

Meanwhile, Sanna in her twitter post also expressed shock at the brutal acts committed by Russia, which was unearthed following the withdrawal of Russian troops from Butcha and other parts in Ukraine.

“We won’t close our eyes, we won’t be silent, we won’t forget. War crimes need to be investigated and the perpetrators brought to justice,” added the Premier in her post written in Finnish.

Earlier on March 24, Minister of Justice Anna-Maja Henriksson said that Finland is committed to supporting the work of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate international crimes committed in Ukraine in order to bring the perpetrators to justice
