Mother kills herself after killing child in Helsinki

A mother allegedly committed suicide after killing her school-age child in an apartment house at Latokartano area in Helsinki on Friday, police said in a press release on Monday.

Police said that a squad of Helsinki police rushed to the house at about 3:00 pm on 25 March to carry out an inspection as a part of the protection of individual and found them dead inside the house.

“Based on current information, police suspect that the mother killed her school-age child and herself, and there is no suspicion that other people were involved in the incident,” said Marja Väätti, Investigation Director of Helsinki police.

The police, however, did not divulge the identities of the deceased.

Earlier on Friday, police said that two people were found dead in an apartment house at Latokartano in Helsinki but did not disclose anything more in this regard saying that further information would be given on Monday after preliminary investigation.

The police are investigating into the deaths as murder and cause-of-death probes.
