NATO summit sees vital display of western unity for Ukraine: Niinistö

President Sauli Niinistö said that the NATO summit held late Friday night witnessed an important display of western unity and support for Ukraine.

“An important display of western unity and support for Ukraine tonight at the NATO Summit, together with Finland, Sweden and the EU,” Niinistö wrote in his twitter post after the meeting.

The president participated in the virtual NATO summit, which discuss Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

In addition to NATO member countries, NATO Enhanced Opportunities Partners (EOP) Finland and Sweden as well as the EU attended in the summit.

NATO leaders at the meeting called on Russia “to stop this senseless war, immediately cease its assault, withdraw all its forces from Ukraine, and turn back to the path of dialogue and turn away from aggression,” said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

NATO leaders agreed their collective response to Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine.
