Prime Minister Sanna Marin on Sunday underscored the need for upholding greater unity among the European Union member states to deal with the present situation in Ukraine.

She also said that any possible sanctions on Russia may put severe impact on Finnish economy as the neighbouring country sensing counter sanctions by Russia.

“We are prepared for any possible situation, for all possible scenarios,” said the Premier at a press conference broadcast by national broadcaster Yle Radio Suomi from her official residence.

Marin, however, said that Europe is well prepared now for the worsening situation in Ukraine compared to the 2014 when Crimea was occupied.

She emphasised that Ukraine's right to self-determination must be respected and Russia has a responsibility to ease the tense situation.

"The main responsibility goes to Russia, which has intensified the situation by its own use of force and operations,” said Marin, adding that Russia is mainly responsible for an amicable solution of the situation.

The PM also assured that there is no military threat to Finland at the moment.
