Vanhanen made Speaker, Rinne, Eerola deputies

The Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party of Finland) lawmaker Matti Vanhanen, also a former Prime Minister on Tuesday has been elected the Speaker of the parliament for the 2022 parliamentary session, said the Parliament in a press release.

Another former Prime Minister Antti Rinne, a lawmaker of the Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP) has been elected the deputy speaker for the session while main opposition Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) lawmaker Juho Eerola has been elected the second deputy speaker.

Vanhanen, aged 64, was the prime minister of the country and also the chairman of the Keskusta from 2003 to 2010.

He returned to parliament as a lawmaker in 2015 and elected the Speaker after the 2019 elections.

He also took over the charge as Finance Minister in June 2020.

The opening of the 2022 parliamentary session will take place on Wednesday.
