The Helsinki District Court on Friday fined former Auditor General at the National Audit Office (VTV) Tytti Yli-Viikari and ordered her to pay 80 income-linked day fines for misconducts in a public office, reported national broadcaster Yle.

The court awarded the punishment to Tytti Yli-Viikari, who sacked from her position by the Parliament last year, as the allegations of misconducts in office brought against her were proved beyond doubt.

The AG is the head of the National Audit Office of Finland (VTV), which monitors the use of government money.

The allegations were linked to an employment contract that allowed a VTV official to get salary for two years without doing any work.

The court also ordered another VTV official Mikko Koiranen to pay 30 income-linked day fines as he was also convicted for the same charges for his involvement in the contract arrangement.

According to a media report published that time, Yli-Viikari faced several charges including spending about 4,729 euros of public money on hairdressing and beauty services during 2018 to 2020. She was also accused of using the official credit card for her personal expenditures.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is investigating the alleged misuse of state fund by the AG.
