Iiris Suomela, the acting Chair of the Vihreä liitto (Green League), one of the components of the five-party alliance government was infected with coronavirus.

“I just did a home-test for coronavirus and the report is positive. The COVID infection of my baby also seems to be infected me as it is difficult to avoid close contact of a one -year-old infant,” wrote Suomela in her twitter post in Finnish on Monday afternoon.

She also wrote that the symptoms are mild for both of them, and she had already taken three vaccine doses.

“I encourage everyone to take vaccines. This is the only way to get rid of this disease,” Suomela, also a lawmaker from Tampere added.

Suomela took over the charge of party's interim Chair in November 2021 following maternity leave of party Chairperson Maria Ohisalo.

The Vihreät leader was elected in the county election from Pirkanmaa wellbeing county on Sunday.

She participated in an election debate hosted by national broadcaster Yle on Thursday where leaders of other main political parties took part.
