219 killed in road mishaps in 2021

A total of 219 people were killed and 3,839 other injured in 3,202 road accidents in the country from January to December in 2021, according to Statistics Finland.
The number of deaths was four lower and that of persons injured 572 lower than the previous year.
Out of the deceased, 124 travelled by passenger car, eight by van, four by moped, 28 by motorcycle and three by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered 24 and cyclists 22. In addition, six other road users were killed.
In December, a total of 11 people were killed and 272 others injured in 216 road accidents in the country.
The number of deaths was three higher and the number of injured persons was 53 lower than in December 2020.
Out of the deceased, nine travelled by passenger car. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered one.
In addition, one other road user was killed. Among those who died, all were men.
