Niinistö discusses security situation with Støre, Stoltenberg

President Sauli Niinistö on Friday held separate telephone conversations with Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and discussed various issues, particularly the current security situation.

Niinistö and Støre in their telephone conversation shared view about the current security situation when both of them stated the importance of close Nordic communication, said the President Office in a press release.

Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg made a phone call to Niinistö and informed about NATO’s views on the current situation. It is important that Russia de-escalates tensions at the Ukrainian borders.

Niinistö stated that dialogue is the only way forward. The President regarded it important, that NATO continues to keep its partners updated.

Niinistö expressed his appreciation to Finland’s NATO partnership. Stoltenberg reaffirmed NATO’s commitment to continuation of its Open Door policy.
