1 killed in snowmobile accident in Muonio

One person was killed and another injured in a snowmobile accident at Muonio in Lapland on Monday afternoon.

Police said that the accident took when the snowmobile with a foreign national and an employee of a safari company onboard skidded off the route and collided with a tree on its way to Särkijärvi.

The driver died on the spot while the foreign national passenger was injured in the accident.

Responding to a call Rescue Services people and Police rushed to the spot and recovered the body of the victim.

The injured foreigner was taken to the Lapland Central Hospital and the on-duty doctor said that her condition was not critical, said police.

An investigation into the accident is on to find out further detail about the reason and the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Earlier, on Sunday one person was killed in a snowmobile accident after the snowmobile went through a river at Pyhäranta municipality in Southwest Finland region.
